SEC seeks to increase resources related to encryption enforcement review in fiscal year 2025 budget

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) fiscal year 2025 budget request shows that it hopes to expand its enforcement and examination division by adding more than 50 new positions. Cryptocurrency is a priority, and more resources will strengthen the division’s response to critical and ongoing Capabilities for changing risks, such as those associated with the resiliency of critical market infrastructure, cyber and information security, and cryptoassets and emerging technologies.

The SEC is also requesting the addition of a position to its Office of Investor Education, which will be primarily focused on handling issues and complaints related to fraud involving crypto-asset securities.
